How to Use the Tire Size Calculator

  1. Enter the Tire Width in millimetres (the first number in the tire code, e.g. 205).
  2. Enter the Aspect Ratio as a percentage (the second number, e.g. 55).
  3. Enter the Wheel Diameter in inches (the last number, e.g. 16).
  4. Click Calculate Tire Size to see sidewall height, overall diameter, and circumference.

What Tire Size Means

Tire sizes are written in a standardised code — for example, 205/55R16. Each part encodes a real physical dimension:

The code does not tell you the overall tire diameter directly — that requires combining the sidewall height with the rim diameter, which is exactly what this calculator computes.

What This Calculator Shows

Enter the three values from the tire code (width, aspect ratio, wheel diameter) and the calculator returns:

The Formulas

The calculator uses three straightforward geometric relationships:

The wheel diameter is converted from inches to mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm) before the calculation so all values are in the same unit.

Worked Example: 205/55R16

These are the actual physical dimensions of the tire, useful for confirming what a given size code translates to in real-world measurements.

When to Use This Calculator

Important Note

This calculator provides geometric tire dimensions based on the size code inputs. It does not account for vehicle clearance, suspension geometry, drivetrain compatibility, or manufacturer-specific variations in actual tire dimensions. Molded tire dimensions may differ slightly from the calculated values depending on the manufacturer and construction.

Use this tool for informational reference and size understanding. For fitment decisions, consult your vehicle manufacturer's specifications or a qualified tire fitter.
