How it works

The calculator combines calories, saturated fat, sugar, and protein per serving using a publicly known SmartPoints-style approximation: Points ≈ (calories × 0.0305) + (saturated fat g × 0.275) + (sugar g × 0.12) − (protein g × 0.098), rounded to the nearest whole number. The exact official Weight Watchers algorithm is proprietary and may differ by ±1 point.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official Weight Watchers algorithm?

No. The Weight Watchers SmartPoints formula is proprietary. This tool uses a publicly known approximation that gets close but is not guaranteed to match exactly.

Why isn't fibre used in the formula?

The current SmartPoints model emphasises sugar and saturated fat instead of fibre. Earlier PointsPlus did include fibre — this calculator follows the newer SmartPoints-style approach.

Why does protein lower the points value?

Higher-protein foods are encouraged on WW plans, so the formula subtracts a small amount per gram of protein, lowering the final points number.

Can I trust this estimate for my daily allowance?

Use it as a planning estimate. For exact tracking against your daily target, log foods in your official Weight Watchers app.

Does it work for branded packaged foods?

Yes — enter the per-serving values from the nutrition label and the calculator returns an estimate. The brand's official WW value may still differ by a point or two.
